What's on the Horizon for Nissan in 2016?

When it comes to Nissan, there’s a lot that’s cooking in the pot for 2016. According to Car and Driver, several updates in the form of new technologies will benefit much of the lineup, including NissanConnect with Navigation and Mobile Apps, NissanConnect Services telematics, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Driver Attention Alert and Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, just to name a few. (1)

In addition, the brand’s best-selling Altima and Sentra sedans get refreshed, (1) the Titan XD gains its very first diesel (of Cummins origin, no less), (2) Siri Eyes Free is newly available and Forward Emergency Braking is now offered on the Rogue. (3)

Below, we’ve listed a model-by-model rundown of what you can expect from Nissan for 2016. (1) We're here to prove to you that it's just going to keep getting better!

The Titan is a full-size pickup that now becomes the Titan XD for 2016: a bolder, all-new vehicle that combines heavy-duty capability with light-duty affordability and drivability. And since it’s all shiny and new, the truck can’t be had with just any old power unit, which is why it features a potent Cummins 5.0-liter V-8 turbo diesel that’s good for 310 horses — and more importantly — a total 555 pound-feet of torque. (3)

Towing capacity when properly equipped is up to 12,000 pounds, and the truck comes standard with features such as a trailer-brake controller, trailer sway control and tow mode for the heavy-duty six-speed Aisin automatic transmission that’s mated to the V-8. (1)

Other elements include a rearview camera with trailer guides, a trailer light check system and the carmaker’s optional Around View 360-degree camera. (1)

The new Titan XD Crew Cab launches this fall as the first of three cab configurations. (1) Nissan says two frame sizes, three powertrain offerings and five grade levels are to come, but at a later date. The gasoline-powered Titan models, in particular, will arrive next spring. (3)

In the meantime, if you simply cannot wait for the new truck to arrive, the outgoing 2015 model is available now at Ferman Nissan of Tampa. (4)

Next up is the 2016 Nissan Rogue SUV, which was completely redesigned for the 2014 model year. The vehicle offers bold, eye-catching design, a comfortable interior, optional three-row seating (for seven passengers) and a very useful EZ Flex seating system and Divide-N-Hide cargo feature. (3)

Available in three trims (S, SV and SL) with a choice of front- or all-wheel-drive, all models come equipped with a responsive 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 170-horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. (3)

The SUV’s most notable upgrades for 2016 include the availability of Forward Emergency Braking (a radar-based technology that monitors the speed and proximity of the vehicle in front of you) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, both of which are available with the SL Premium Package. What’s more, that last feature is also offered with the SV Premium Package. (3)

As for the Rogue SL, Car and Driver says it gets standard Siri Eyes Free, and NissanConnect telematics and apps, “including automatic collision and stolen vehicle notifications.” (1)

If you’re all about the look and style of your SUV, a new Magnetic Black shade replaces the previously available Super Black, and body-colored exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals and chrome door handles have been added to the Nissan Rogue S Appearance Package. (3)

This is another intriguing model, especially when considering its exterior appearance. The vehicle's sculpted headlights and hood, muscular lines and fluid rear hatchback design — as described by the automaker — make for an appealing SUV, and with the addition of new front and rear fascias for 2015, it’s even more captivating. (3)

For 2016, two new Personal Packages have been introduced: the Black and Yellow Stinger Edition. Car and Driver says the yellow option “brings a rear spoiler, door handles, mirrors, and wheels all rendered in black, along with yellow stitching, seat inserts, and bumper accents.” However, if you lean more towards the black option, expect the reverse with the exception of the interior, which stays the same. The outside will sport yellow bits and black wheels. (1)

In the technology department, the carmaker has decided to include Apple Siri Eyes Free as a standard element on all models (1) — including the Juke Nismo and Nismo RS. (3)

The 2016 Nissan Juke comes available in three grade levels (S, SV and SL) with either front- or all-wheel drive (depending on your preference). The standard engine is a 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline Turbo inline 4-cylinder capable of pushing a total 188-hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. (3)

All models, including the 2016 Juke Nismo and Nismo RS, will be available this October. (3)

The Maxima is now in its eight-generation and is all-new for 2016. The automaker says the large sedan is meant to “‘Maximize’ the Nissan brand itself – as a halo vehicle showcasing the company's cutting-edge design, performance and innovation leadership.” (3)

Dubbed the “4-Door Sports Car,” (3) the vehicle is available in five trim levels (S, SV, SL, SR and Platinum) and offered with a starting price that falls below the $35K mark. (5) The sedan features nice body sculpting, flared fenders and available machine-finished 19-inch wheels. (3)

Under the hood, the car sports a new 3.5-liter V-6 engine made with 60 percent new parts, and is capable of delivering a total output of 300-hp and 261 lb-ft of torque, as well as a “high specific output of 85.7-hp/liter.” The Xtronic transmission includes wider ratio range, D-step shift logic, Adaptive Shift Control and Sport mode. In addition, those of you that select the SR trim will benefit from a sport-tuned suspension with monotube rear dampers, and a performance chassis damper that Nissan says is similar the one found in the 370Z Nismo. (3)

Other perks include standard NissanConnect with navigation and 8-inch color touchscreen, available safety systems such as Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Cruise Control, Driver Attention Alert, Forward Emergency Braking and more. An active sound enhancement feature is also worth considering, as is the Bose audio system with 11 speakers and Active Noise Cancellation. (3)

Inside, you can dress up the Maxima with Ascot Leather-appointed seats with diamond-quilted inserts, or Alcantara diamond-quilted inserts if you select the SR model. (3)

Versa and Versa Note

Both the Nissan Versa sedan and subcompact Versa Note hatchback were refreshed just last year. According to Car and Driver, both models get two new red and gray exterior paint options (Cayenne Red and Gun Metallic) that basically replace the previous red and gray shades previously available with the 2015 models. (1)

Body-colored power outside mirrors are now standard across the board for the four-door Versa, rear speakers are included on the S trim, and SL sees the addition of a leather-wrapped steering wheel. (3)

As for the Versa Note, the SV gets a host of standard equipment — which is basically everything that was offered in the previous Convenience Package: NissanConnect with Mobile Apps, a 5.0-inch color display, hands-free text messaging, satellite radio, Bluetooth audio, a rearview camera and Divide-N-Hide Adjustable Floor. (3)

Both the Nissan Versa sedan and Versa Note hatchback went on sale last month. (3)

Quick Facts

The Japanese automaker offers a wide range of vehicles, some of which have received major modifications and feature upgrades, while others see slight but notable updates. (3)

In the sports car department, the 2016 Nissan 370Z Coupe and 370Z NISMO, for example, see the addition of a newly available Bose audio system with an active noise cancellation and sound enhancement system. (3)

A special 45th Anniversary Gold Edition joins the powerful GT-R family in the form of a Premium-level model cloaked in Silica Brass paint and featuring added bling such as a gold-colored VIN plate and a plaque on the dashboard. The sleek new car is limited to just 30 units, based on news from Car and Driver. (1)

For 2016, Nissan’s Pathfinder SUV gets a new high-contrast Almond interior. Those of you that choose the SV trim can opt for the newly-available Cold Package. (3)

In terms of the Frontier, fans will have access to the pickup truck in September, when it will be available with new orange, metallic and black paint colors. If you’re planning on getting the Frontier Crew Cab SV, we suggest waiting until later this year (or 2016) as a moonroof will be added to the model. (3)

Lastly, the commercial NV Cargo van benefits from standard front- and side airbags with a rollover sensor, and a new red exterior color. (1) The NV Passenger SL grade gets all the goodies from the previous SL Technology Package, and new white and red paints options replace Midnight Garnet. As for the NV200 Compact Cargo model, it's now available in Taxi Yellow. (3)

The other Nissan models have either not seen any significant changes for 2016, or details are yet to be released by the automaker. For information regarding pricing and test-drive bookings, contact Ferman Nissan in Tampa Bay, Florida today. (3)
